Discovery Adventures were multi-week virtual expeditions: a real journey, followed in something close to real time, with classes reading dispatches as they arrived.
Antarctica, the Mysteries of Egypt, Borneo, the North Pole. The format worked because it had genuine narrative tension — the expedition might fail, the weather might turn, and nobody involved knew the ending in advance.
It is a format worth reviving. The logistics that made it hard in 1999 have almost entirely disappeared.
