Online Exchange
Online Exchange was the collaboration channel: pen pals, sister schools, and joint projects between classes that would otherwise never have met.
This was the most optimistic part of the original site, and reading it back is a slightly complicated experience. The premise — that putting students from different places in direct contact is straightforwardly good — was held without much qualification.
It is still largely true. It just turned out to need a great deal more thought about safety and moderation than anyone was giving it in 1999.
